Sunday February 13, 2022 - Jesus said to Philip, ''Follow me'' (John 1:43), to Levi, ''Follow me'' (Luke 5:27), to Peter and Andrew ''Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” (Matt. 4:19). Jesus said to Matthew, ''Follow me'' (Matt. 9:9). James and John “follow me.” (Matt. 4:21)
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matt. 16:24)
The people in Capernaum catch a glimpse of the light. The lost were found-one by one. The hungry were fed-one by one. Those who were sick received healing one by one. Broken relationships were restored one by one. Eventually a crowd followed Jesus and Jesus needed help. Your gifts and my gifts together in community make a difference in this part of God’s kingdom. May the Spirit quicken our responses to keep following Jesus everyday of our lives.
On Sunday we will join in the celebration of Black History month. We will sing songs, read liturgy, poems, prayers and stories that reflect the heritage of black people. We will hear of their struggles then and the dire need today for justice in church and society. Come and be part of God’s story and share the love of God with all people. Amen
